There is nothing more refreshing than a website re-design! It has been over a year since Anger & Associates first launched. The year was great – we started slowly because we wanted to observe the needs of the market to see where our services would best fit. We spent the year assisting clients with evaluating eDiscovery and case management software, developing best practices and protocols for electronic hearing rooms and e-trials, implementing new legal technology platforms and workflows, and we kept up our case management skills by using a new machine learning tool on several review projects. We also picked up a couple of new industry certifications.
Now, here we are, in May of 2020. We are in a pandemic that has no foreseeable end and that has forced us to adjust to living with it. Words like “pivot,” “adapt,” and “shift” have become part of our lexicon as we describe how our day to day work has changed. Working from home was not new to us because we had been running the business out of our home office since January 2019. We do miss the travel though, as 40% of our business in 2019 was done in person out of town.
One change that has emerged for us during the last couple of months is that we are writing – a lot! Finally putting all those writing classes that we took in college to work. Our goal is to produce a couple blogs a month and to share our insights on the legal technology industry as well as to provide more useful content in the form of checklists and best practices.
One of our areas of expertise is court modernization and e-hearings. It has been our passion since early on in our legal technology career to promote a move towards a digital workflow where documents that begin as electronic stay electronic, from the eDiscovery process to court e-filings, and into the courtroom. The first electronic trial we were part of was a criminal pre-trial way back in 2006 that had a massive document disclosure. We were working for a litigation support vendor and in the war room while the legal team and our trial technician attended court. It was amazing to see the work and coordination that could be done remotely from the war room while the team was across town in court. Since then we have been hands on in the court room many times and we are just as passionate about court modernization, more so now that the government is forced to adapt as the courts all over Canada are shifting to a remote model. Change is upon us.
